Education

Hi! I'm Alex and I'm currently in my first year of studying a Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences/Politics, Philosophy Economics at ANU. I am also a resident at Burgmann College.

Experience

I completed my HSC at Ascham School in Sydney, where I studied Extension 2 Mathematics, Extension 1 Mathematics, Advanced English, Physics, and Chinese Continuers. I graduated with a 97.05 ATAR, and achieved 94/100 in Extension 1 Mathematics, and 89/100 in Extension 2 Mathematics. In year 12 I was also a Mathematics Scholar, and at graduation received prizes for Mathematical Insight and First in Course in Chinese Continuers. As it may clear by now, I have always loved and been fascinated by maths, and my appreciation for the subject has only grown since attending university. After only 2 semesters I have already been introduced to such amazing concepts and theories through my degree of Mathematical Science, where I have taken MATH1115 and MATH1116 (the highest stream for first year mathematics), as well as MATH2222 (a second year course in proofs). Throughout high school and university I have always enjoyed informally tutoring friends because it not only allows me to help, but also pass on my love for maths, and this is why I want to be a tutor. To me, the most important thing about maths is that it is all about attitude. It is a subject that many people find scary and overwhelmingly difficult, but like anything else it takes PRACTISE! With anyone I tutor, whether it be friends or a student, I hope that I can build confidence and encourage a determined and patient approach.

Hobbies

My friends and family describe me as a gregarious person with a warm and friendly personality. I love meeting new people, and feel that my best attribute is being able to make conversation that allows people to feel comfortable no matter the situation. I love to talk - not just about maths but also politics, music, news, TV, movies, pop culture, and just about anything you can think of! When I'm not at uni or studying I spend plenty of time hanging out with friends and getting involved around college. I also love to play netball, go to yoga, listen to new music and read.
